A most excellent evening with the Mianus Chapter of TU

Many thanks to the Mianus Chapter of TU for hosting me last night. “Wet Flies 101” was the topic, and we had a roomful of enthusiastic, welcoming anglers. I’ve never presented in a mansion before — that was rather posh. No matter what venue I’m in, it’s always gratifying to be able to spread the wet fly gospel. Thank you again.

    I would recommend this to anglers of all skill levels. Steve is an engaging speaker and we all learned some new tricks.

    Hi Steve,

    i’m curious about the little flat bead in the photo. Is it threaded on the line above the hook eye? Is it just for weight, or for “wobble” too?

    Hi Zak,

    Your eyes — and the angle of the hook — deceive you. That flat object you describe is the downward eye of the hook.

    No wobbles are needed for a properly constructed wet fly. 🙂

    I just noticed the row of minute dots between the trout’s upper jaw line and eye. Neat!
