Another great class today at UpCountry Sportfishing in New Hartford, CT. UpCountry is my home shop, and it’s always nice to be tying along the banks of the Farmington River. We covered the same basics as yesterday’s class, took a few new directions, but the result was the same. We all learned something, and a splendid time was had by all.
Steelhead Spiders or Soft-Hackles
Next up: flatwing demo Thursday night at the Saltwater Edge in Newport, RI.

Nice post. I bet you taught those guys a lot. Ever tied a soft-hackled steelhead fly with a blue body, silver ribbing and fluorescent orange hackle? I did once and had a fantastic day with it.
No, but I will now. Although I may have to substitute fire orange for fluoro.
Those are beautiful flies, by the way. I love the simplicity and balance of those classic patterns.
very nice Steve, beautiful wet flies….going to have to tie some more for my box this week. -Long
Thanks guys. I fish these like a nymph, then let them swing up at drift’s end. Last year I hooked and lost a monster of a steelhead on the fly in the lower left corner.
Beautiful flies Steve, I especially liked the two toned body wet
That fly was responsible for my biggest steelhead in 2011. It’s a good one.
